$61,057 to be Awarded to Nonprofit Organizations that Administer Emergency Food and Shelter Programs & CARES Supplemental Programs in Baker, Lee, & Terrell Counties
United Way of Southwest Georgia has been appointed administrator of $144,757 for the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) and the appropriated supplemental funds under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) / Federal Emergency Management Agency.
$11,216 is available to Baker County, $29,389 to Lee County, and $20,452 to Terrell County to private voluntary nonprofits, faith-based or local units of government. With a board comprised of local community leaders, United Way of Southwest Georgia will determine funding allocation through a competitive application process.
Under the terms of the grant, local agencies that are chosen to receive funds must be private voluntary nonprofits, faith-based or local units of government; be eligible to receive federal funds; have an accounting system; practice nondiscrimination; have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs; and if they are a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board. Qualifying agencies are urged to apply.
Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local organizations chosen to receive funds for mass shelter, mass feeding, other food, temporary lodging, rent/mortgage assistance and utility assistance must meet the following criteria:
- have non-profit status
- maintain an accounting system
- practice non-discrimination
- demonstrate the capacity to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs
- have a voluntary board (if the agency is a private voluntary organization)
