Volunteers make the difference. Find out more...
Did you know that nationally volunteers contribute an average of 3.6 hours per week-totaling 15.5 billion hours, with an estimated dollar value of over $263 billion?
That adds up to a lot of positive impact on our communities. But it doesn't happen on its own. United Way of Southwest Georgia's Volunteer Albany is a key resource for volunteer involvement in our community.
Volunteerism is described as loving to lend a helping hand to others when they are in need. It is also sharing your support and not accepting a reward. To be a volunteer means giving freely from your heart to help those who can not help themselves. Volunteerism is essential in every community!

Why Volunteer?
Most volunteers won't tell you why they volunteer, but we'll share their well-kept secrets. They report that they get back in satisfaction and joy more than they ever expend in inconvenience or effort-what you get back is immeasurable. They also know that volunteering helps you feel needed, learn new skills, keep your taxes down, cope with personal problems, meet new people, and share with those who have less.

Positive quality of life for young children...
United Way Success By 6 began at United Way of Minneapolis Area in 1988 through a collaborative effort of the mayor, the Chief Executive Officer of Honeywell Corporation, the Superintendent of Schools and the Chief Professional Officer of United Way of Minneapolis Area. Today, United Way's Success by 6 has deep roots, with more than 350 initiatives across the United States and Canada. These efforts improve the lives of children and their families by addressing system barriers, enhancing research-based strategies and mobilizing the community.
The United Way Success By 6 initiative is based on long-term research on brain development, quality childcare and early intervention. According to medical and scientific research, the experiences of young children in the first six years have a lasting impact on later success in school and life. This research provides the rationale for United Way Success By 6 and propels communities in their efforts to mobilize young children and families.
